Commonwealth parley appeals for calm in SA
REGIONAL integration will be baseless if xenophobia in South Africa continues, Commonwealth Parliamentary Association second vice president for Zambian Branch Peter Daka has said.
Mr Daka, who is also Msanzala MP, has since called upon the deputy speaker of that country Lechesa Tsenoli to engage other leaders in his country to address the situation immediately.
He said it was not acceptable that Africans killed each other, when leaders were meeting in different organisations preaching unity and working in harmony.
Mr Daka urged leaders in the Commonwealth to address the situation and stop burying their heads in sand on a situation that was bound to divide the countries.
He said this in an interview with the Daily Nation.
He said South Africans were ungrateful considering a number of frican countries assisted them during their fight against apartheid.
How can we unite when we are killing each, because migrants are all over, and it did not start today, if that the case, South Africans would not have been accommodated by other countries during their struggle for independence,” he said.
He said Zambia hosted a lot of foreigners, with the majority being South Africans.
Mr Daka advised leaders to ensure peace prevailed in order to unite Africa.
“Why are they not attacking the white people who own major businesses, but the target is on fellow Africans, this is not conducive for Africa,” he said.
The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association exists to develop, promote and support parliamentarians to identify benchmarks of good governance and to implement the enduring value of the common wealth.
And Zambia was part of the delegation that met in Tanzania for the conference in preparations to celebrate the 50 year milestone of existence for the CPA Africa branch as well as prepare for the CPA annual general meeting slated for September 29, 2019 in Kampala, Uganda.
