Ephraim awan abantu said climate change was a cross cutting and affected all sectors of the economy.

e therefore suggested that the country should come together and find lasting solutions on how to minimize the negative effects. e noted that in his state of the ation Address to Parliament, President Edgar Lungu rightly pointed out the negative effects of climate change on the lives of citizens, the economy and the future of the country.

Mr Mwanjabant­u said the President had already set the tone and it was now up to stakeholde­rs to brainstorm on how best the country could respond to the current situation. e challenged institutio­ns like Engineerin­g institute of ambia E , universiti­es, other institutio­ns of higher learning, think tanks, politician­s and other takeholder­s to call for an ndaba.

r wan abantu noted that the energy sector had been hard hit by the effects of climate change.

e predicted that there was a possibilit­y that in 20 years time, the country would not be able to generate hydroelect­ricity at power stations such as ake ariba am. e said even the current power pro ects the overnment was undertakin­g such as the atoka gorge and the afue lower risk becoming white elephants due to persistent drought.
