Students urged to embrace innovation
STUDENTS in institutions of higher learning should be innovative and excellent
minded to fit in the fast
moving world, University of Zambia (UNZA) ViceChancellor Professor Luke Mumba has said.
Prof Mumba warned students against engaging
in an unprofitable rat race
that hinder success, but remain innovative in order to contribute to national development.
He echoed the
university’s mission of
providing relevant and demand-driven training for social and economic development.
The Vice-Chancellor was speaking during the opening of the Students Success Summit organised by Deeper Life Campus Fellowship in collaboration with student Unions and Associations.
Assistant Dean of Students, Newton Museteka, delivered the speech on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor.
Prof Mumba challenged young people to be active drivers towards the realisation of the vision 2030 as spelt out in the Seventh National Development Plan.
And Deeper Christian Life Ministry National Overseer Pastor John Amoni bemoaned the increasing number of suicide cases among young people due to avoidable circumstances.
Pastor Amoni said the Church was available to offer counsel to young people in all areas of life and see them through the expected future.
He said that students were the leaders of both today and tomorrow hence the need to give them guidance in all areas of life.
Meanwhile, UNZA Students Union President Warren Hamusanga had thanked the Deeper Life Campus Fellowship for addressing key issues that affect students at the university.
He noted that students needed to connect to God for lasting success as opposed to selfmanagement only.
