- By MUYANI SHINJABALE

GOVERNMENT has for the fir t ti e reha ilitate the

Ndeke-Masangano road in Luanshya which has been in a deplorable state for over 40 years.

Luanshya Central Member of Parliament (MP), Steven Chungu, said the 15 kilometre stretch from Ndeke township to Masangano junction was being done using funds from the National Roads Funds Agency(NRFA).

Mr Chungu observed that the road had not been serviced since its establishment in 1969, posing a major challenge for the over 3,000 farmers in the area.

He was speaking in an interview after inspecting the progress on the works being done by the Road Development Agency (RDA) and Luanshya Municipal Council.

He stated that Government remained committed to providing good services to the people of Zambia.

The Luanshya Central lawmaker stated that over K600, 000 had been lobbied from NRFA for the road works.

Mr Chungu further indicated that he would continue to lobby for more funds to tackle the problem of water blues in the Kafubu Farm bloc in Luanshya.

He said the challenge of erratic water supply was affecting the farmers especially those who reared livestock in the area.

And Chitwi ward councillor, Robert Chisupa, expressed gratitude for the initiative of servicing the road after so many years.

“I have lived in this area since 1975 and not once has this road been worked on by any government. We are therefore very happy for this initiative as it will ease the access to the market for the farmer,” he said.

Copperbelt RDA Regional Manager, Joseph Himululi, said the road was being compacted with gravel wearing course to give it a long life span.

Mr Himululi said the works would be concluded this month.
