THE church should lead society for positive development and reconciliation in order to foster national Unity amidst the economic challenges being faced in the country, Ministry of National Guidance and Religious Affairs Permanent Secretary Dr Howard Sikwela has said.

Dr Sikwela said the church must guide society by reflecting positive development in society as well as preach reconciliation to people from all walks of life.

Speaking during the choral concert on Sunday, Dr Sikwela said the Government was ready to work with any church as long as it used music to bring change to people’s morals and impact Christian values of member of society.

Dr Sikwela said the choral concert was being held as part of the preparation for the national day of prayer, fasting, repentance and reconciliation as well as independence.

He said Government was delighted with the evolution of the choral music as it was now creating employment opportunities for many and contributed to the development of the music industry in the country.

“The music industry is a powerful tool that can be used to spread the gospel to many people, however, it can be manipulated by many for the wrong reasons,” he said.

Dr Sikwela said the role of the church in guiding and counselling the national must be reflected in the music and lyrics of the choirs.

He said Government was committed to support choral concerts by gospel choir in the country.

Meanwhile, he said this year’s national day of prayer theme is “receiving times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord through reconciliation with one another and the environment.”
