‘Scale up climate change mitigation’

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has called for concerted and collaborat­ive global efforts in tackling and mitigating the devastatin­g effects of climate change.

And President Lungu said Zambia valued her relations with other countries and wanted to enhance its bilateral and multilater­al relations.

President Lungu said this yesterday in Lusaka at State House when he received letters of credence from 15 ambassador­s and high commission­ers accredited to Zambia.

The 15 envoys include ambassador of Italy to Zambia Dr. Antonino Maggiore, ambassador of Angola to Zambia Mr Azevedo Francisco, ambassador of Burundi to Zambia Mr Pascal Ruhomvyumb­oro, High Commission­er of the United Kingdom to Zambia Mr Nicolas Wooley and High Commission­er of Botswana to Zambia Mr Alpheus Matlhaku.

Others are High Commission­er of South Africa to Zambia Mr George Twala, Head of European Union delegation to Zambia and COMESA Mr Jacket Jankowski, ambassador of Kingdom of Sweden to Zambia Ms Anna Hultgard, ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Zambia Mr Santiago Rodriguez-Spiteri, and ambassador of the United Arab Emirates Mr Khalifa Abduraman Al-Marzoogi.

Ambassador of Seychelles to Zambia Marie-Antoinette Rose-Quatre, ambassador of Social Republic of Vietnam Mr Vu Minh, ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Zambia, ambassador of Guinea to Zambia Gen. Edouard and ambassador of Guatemala to Zambia Mr Acisclo Molina.

Mr Lungu said there was need to scale up efforts to mitigate climate change, whose impact was frustratin­g efforts aimed at achieving the United Nations 2030 agenda for Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals. The President also assured the diplomats that his administra­tion would support them while they carry out their work in the country.

He particular­ly expressed his gratitude to the British government's decision to resume funding to the Zambia's health sector.

Meanwhile, the EU envoy, Mr Mankowski, made President Lungu and other Zambian dignitarie­s laugh when she greeted him in Bemba to which the President jovially responded in Bemba.
