K200m for Solwezi - Chingola road completion
GOVERNMENT has released abut K200 million for the completion of the second bridge on the Solwezi river and the remaining woks on the Solwezi-Chingola road.
This came to light during the ordinary Solwezi full council meeting. Solwezi Mayor, Nicholas Mukumbi, said that the contractor had since mobilised and moved on site. He said the Solwezi Bridge is part of the Solwezi Chingola road project which also comes along with a dual carriageway. “The funds have been released to complete the remaining works on the second bridge across the Solwezi river and the contractor has already mobilized and moved on site,’’ he said. Mr Mukumbi said it was agreed that 15 kilometres of the road network be taken under the existing valuation. ‘’So, we are of the view that the money that has been released we finish the bridge and also complete that 15 kilometre valuation,’’ he said. The Mayor has since appealed to the contractor to complete the works before the rain intensifies. During the meeting, the council approved the procurement of a new motor grader at a total cost of K3.6 million for carrying out road works. The decision was necessitated by the fact that the council had been facing challenges in executing works using the current grader due to high frequent breakdowns. The council also approved the request by the Ministry of Health for the allocation of a permanent space at the main bus station which would be used as a health post for people in transit. And a request to conduct a joint valuation roll exercise with Mushindamo and Kalumbla councils was approved in order to reduce the cost of the valuation exercise and also incorporate the two councils that were not yet rating authorities.
