- By KALOBWE BWALYA in Kanchibiya

OVER 9 179 metric tonnes of D compound fertiliser and 7, 496 metric tonnes of Urea has been delivered in Muchinga Province by Nerlia’s Investment Limited.

General manager Martin Chaikatisha stated that the company has always delivered the farm inputs on time in the last six years it had worked with the government.

Mr Chaikatisha disclosed that the company had stocked enough inputs in all its depots, and appealed to farmers to start collecting their inputs and immediately plant when the rains start.

He said this in Kachibiya district yesterday where he is inspecting the 2019/2020 ongoing fertilizer distribution in Muchinga Province.

He also thanked Government for good working relationship in ensuring that the exercise was a success as small-scale farmers were an important component in the maize value chain.

He said his company would strive to help small scale farmers by early delivery of inputs in all the Provinces where the company had been contracted by Government.

Meanwhile, Chief Kopa of Bisa people noted that the province had in the past years recorded poor harvest due to the delayed distribution of fertiliser and dilapidated roads.

Chief Kopa said trucks used to get stuck and at times the inputs were not even delivered and this had put the farmers in an awkward state.

Chief Kopa commended President Edgar Lungu for ensuring that farmer’s inputs were delivered on time especially in Muchinga province.

"I am very confident that Nerlia's Investment has delivered the fertiliser for farmers in Kanchibiya district and I am appealing to all farmers who have not cleared their fields to do," said Chief Kopa.

And Kanchibiya District Commissioner Mary Witika explained that before Kanchibiya became a district, farmers used to travel to Mpika to collect fertiliser.

Ms Witika thanked President Lungu for putting agriculture as a priority on the agenda and ensuring that suppliers contracted to deliver the inputs were done on time.

I am very confident that Nerlia’s Investment has delivered the fertiliser for farmers in Kanchibiya district and I am appealing to all farmers who have not cleared their fields to do,” — Chief Kopa.
