RAMPANT LAND SALES WORRY FARMERS
THE rampant sale of agricultural land is a big threat to national dignity and sovereignty and if left the way it is, will cause dissolution of the social and economic status of the country, SmallScale Farmers' Development Agency (SAFADA) Executive Director Boyd Moobwe has said.
Mr Moobwe said the government should revisit the land policy to protect Zambian land and natural resources for future generation.
In an interview, he said if the policy was left the way it was, poverty was going to continue and even escalate higher.
Mr Moobwe advised that a quick survey must be done to determine the rate of land and its impact on agriculture, land and natural resources.
“Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Jean Kapata 's comment yesterday is a kind warning but weak advise because in actual sense the minister is legally allowing Zambians to sale land anyhow which is a bad policy and endangers the country's rich natural resources , our culture and human dignity and development,” he said.
Mr Moobwe said the Government should stop the trend of selling land as merchandise but should be treated as official and delicate.
He said land was a national economic property that deserved proper mechanisms and modalities with rules and regulations in place.

He said Zambia currently was the only country in Africa that had a weak land policy that needed to be reviewed.
