Don’t dare us, warns CB Polce Chief Katanga

- By MOSES SINJWALA

POLICE on the Copperbelt will act accordingly if UPND president, Hakainde Hichilema and supporters defy orders to hold party activities on the area as advised, provincial police commissioner Charity Katanga has warned.

This follows UPND Copperbelt province chairperson, Elisha Matambo’s insistence that the planned party card renewal exercise and mealie meal donation this weekend would go ahead despite police refusing to grant permission for the programmes on account that there was less man power. “Our officers have advised the United Party for National Development (UPND) not to go ahead with their activities but if they insist, they will meet us and we shall act accordingly,” Ms Katanga said.

Ms Katanga said her officers had informed UPND not to go ahead with their planned meeting in Kitwe but if they insisted they will meet them on the ground.

She said officers were not going to waste time to talk or even warn them because they had been advised earlier.

“I am aware that my officers advised the UPND not to go ahead with their activities but if a person says they will go ahead why then should police waste time to talk or warn them,” she said.

Ms Katanga said refusing not to listen to the police was their decision because police were able to determine what the security situation on the ground was and the work they had to do.

She said police were not politicians who could talk anyhow even on things that did not make sense.

Meanwhile, Ms Katanga denied that police had stopped the UPND from attending any church services on the Copperbelt.

She said the UPND members where lying that police had stopped them from attending any church service in the province.

She said it was strange that every time the UPND went to the Copperbelt, they brought in the church yet this was not the case in other provinces.

Our officers have advised the United Party for National Development (UPND) not to go ahead with their activities but if they insist, they will meet us and we shall act accordingly.
