Trim cabinet to make it efficient, Dodia advises State

- By SILUMESI MALUMO

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu should consider trimming the Cabinet for the government to work effectively and efficiently, a renowned economist has observed.

Mr Yusuf Dodia said in an interview yesterday government had created a lot of ministries some of which had no impact on the country's economy.

Mr Dodia said it was prudent that Cabinet is reduced to a manageable size. He suggested that the President should trim his cabinet to at least 15 people to make it proactive to growing the country.

He said some ministries were not necessary, therefore, they had not contributed to the development of the country.

He said some ministries should be created as departments to certain ministries.

Mr Dodia said it was important that only critical ministries should be considered for the country to grow.

“For me I think that Cabinet should be reduced to about 15 instead of the numbers we have now, some of the ministries are just giving pressure to the treasury,” he said.

“This must be looked into, our country can only grow if we have less ministries which can be funded heavily for them to work effectively,’ he said.

“We don't need a big number of ministries, some of which are not even critical to this country's economy growth,” Mr Dodia said.

For me I think that Cabinet should be reduced to about 15 instead of the numbers we have now, some of the ministries are just giving pressure to the treasury.
