Protect Mbunda, Nkoya chiefs - Lungu

- By MICHAEL MIYOBA

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has directed Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja to protect the lives of Mbunda and Nkoya chiefs who are living in fear after attempts on their lives in Western Province.

This is contained in a statement issued by special assistant to the President for press and public relations Isaac Chipampe.

Speaking when chiefs Chiyengele, Mutondo and Kahare paid a courtesy call on him yesterday at State House, President Lungu said Government was concerned that Mbunda and Nkoya chiefs were living in constant fear of being attacked.

The President urged Mr Kanganja, through Minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo, to protect the lives of the chiefs. He made the directive after the three chiefs narrated how they and their families survived attacks in their chiefdoms.

President Lungu has directed his special assistant for legal affairs Sukwana Lukangaba to follow up the case of the chiefs after attempts on their lives.

Meanwhile, President Lungu is impressed that Chief Bundabunda of Rufunsa in Lusaka Province has invited the State and investors in his area to build a modern city.

Speaking when Chief Bundabunda paid a courtesy call on him, President Lungu said Government would support Chief Bundabunda’s vision to transform Rufunsa into a city. The President said some areas in Zambia remained underdeveloped because chiefs refused to allow investments in their areas. And Chief Bundabunda hailed President Lungu for the massive road development taking place in Chongwe district.
