Bemba chiefs warn Mukuni
SENIOR Chief Mukuni should stay in his lane and stop behaving like a political cadre, Chief Luchembe of Mpika has warned.
Chief Luchembe said it was shameful that Senior Chief Mukuni of the Toka-Leya had allowed himself to be used by politicians like a child to the extent of peddling lies about other tribes.
Last week, the Bemba Royal Establishment rubbished allegations by Senior Chief Mukuni that it floated names of persons to stand as presidential candidates in the 2021 general elections as President Edgar Lungu’s successor.
Chief Luchembe said, going forward, Senior Chief Mukuni should stay in his lane and leave Bemba chiefs out of his political stunts. He said if the Senior Chief had allowed himself to be used as a cadre, Bemba chiefs were above politics and would not tolerate being dragged into cheap propaganda.
Chief Luchembe said it was unfortunate that Senior Chief Mukuni had diluted the respect Zambians had for him but that he should take that route alone without dragging others with him.
“Senior Chief Mukuni should behave himself, he should not behave like a political cadre, we are very respected people as chiefs. It’s unfortunate that he is being used like a child when he is supposed to be above politics,” he said.
Chief Luchembe insisted that Senior Chief Mukuni’s allegations were not true and unfounded. He said that the traditional leader would be judge harshly by posterity because of the partisan route he has taken at the expense of what is expected of a chief.
