‘Munali school land demolition a must’
THE construction on Munali Secondary School land is unlawful therefore the erected structures should be demolished to set a precedent, former deputy Transport and Communications Minister Alfred Ndlovu has said. Mr Ndlovu said the school land at Munali had been abused for too long and it was now time to stop the trend and bring about legality. He wondered why the government was dilly-dallying in demolishing the illegal structures erected on the Munali land when it very well knew that the land in question belonged to the school. Mr Ndlovu was reaction to Local Government Minister, Charles Banda’s announcement that the structures on the Munali Secondary School land would not be demolished until investigations were completed. He observed that the land in question was dubiously allocated to whoever was developing it and therefore the structures must be demolished. Mr Ndlovu said in an interview the construction taking place on the Munali school land was unlawful and that the structures on it should be demolished in order to set a precedent. He said the Local Government Minister should let the structures on the Munali school land to be immediately demolished as the school did not lease it out or benefit from the allocation. “It is unfortunately that there is illegal land allocation going on everywhere in the country, be it in Livingstone, Mbala, Chipata and Lusaka, but in all this there is needed to have a proper land policy that will ensure that everyone follow laid down laws and procedures,” he said. Mr Ndlovu observed that currently every persons seemed free to illegally secure land and construct on it without having proper documentation but as long it was vacant.
