‘UPND MUST COME OUT CLEAN ON HOMO’

- By ROGERS KALERO

VARIOUS stakeholders including the UPND have been silent over advocacy for homosexuality instead of fighting the foreign vice vigorously, says former Patriotic Front (PF) Copperbelt Provincial chairman Stephen Kainga. Mr Kainga said the silence by stakeholders including vocal Civil Society Organisations (CSO) and the UPND was an indication that they supported homosexuality as advocated by US Ambassador to Zambia Daniel Foote. In an interview in Kitwe yesterday, Mr Kainga said it was surprising that the most vocal CSOs and the UPND had been silent on Mr Foote’s statement He said the UPND and its CSO allies should now come out in the open to condemn homosexuality, a taboo and unnatural act in African and Zambian society in general “Instead of attacking PF on well meant issues, these vocal CSOs and UPND should come out openly on Ambassador Foote’s statement. They should state their position whether they support him or not. Why are they silent over this matter,” he said. Mr Kainga also called for the restoration of discipline within the ruling party as lack of it could have a negative effect on the party’s image. “The current levels of indiscipline in the ruling PF is worrying. Failure to restore order and discipline could make the party unpopular at the grassroots. “Observing discipline is the only way the party will grow and attract more members so that the needed development is delivered to people who voted it into office,’’ he said He also advised Members of Parliament to embrace grassroots structures as it was impossible to love the top leadership while neglecting the ordinary members.
