Mulonga Water board chairperson faces revolt

- By ROGERS KALERO

WORKERS and some members of the board at Mulonga Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) are up in arms against board chairman Peter Kazhila over his alleged abuse of authority and dictatorial tendencies.

But when contacted, Mr Kazhila said he had no comment to make over allegations against him.

The workers who spoke on grounds of anonymity for fear of victimisation, told the Daily Nation that, because of his conduct, two board members had allegedly resigned from the board, but one of the two was forced to rescind her decision by her employer, Konkola Copper Mines (KCM).

The workers said Mr Kazhila has been abusing company resources, including company vehicles which were meant for the water supply and sanitation project.

The workers disclosed that he has been using project vehicles for his personal errands and that, two weeks ago, he took a Toyota Hilux registration number BAE 149 for a personal errand in Western Province.

"He has been abusing company resources and when you advise him against abusing company resources, he exhibits strong dictatorial tendencies. About two weeks ago, he took a company vehicle to Western Province for personal errands.

"He took a Toyota Hilux registration number BAE 149 to Western province. This is a company vehicle and it is vehicle for the project. After the Western Province trip, he instructed staff in the procurement department to buy him a laptop,'' said MWSC workers. The workers further disclosed that, because of his abuse of authority and dictatorial tendencies, two female members of the board resigned, but one was forced to rescind her decision by her employer.

But when contacted by the Daily Nation, the two refused to discuss the matter in the media, as they chose to cut the line.

Repeated efforts by the Daily Nation could not yield positive results as one phone went unanswered while the other one had blacklisted the Journalist.
