Cancel ‘fruitless’ RTSA, IMS deal - Mtayachalo

- By MOSES SINJWALA

GOVERNMENT should review or cancel the concession agreement between the Road Transport and safety Agency (RTSA) and Intelligence Mobility Solution IMS as it was not yielding any results, Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD), Chairperson for information and publicity Yotam Mtayachalo has said.

Mr Mtayachalo said the system was not yielding any result but milking motorist in the country.

He said in an interview that Government should cancel the contract and channel the resources to other needy sectors in the country.

He said despite signing the concession agreement for the safety of the Zambia, there was still a high number of accidents and reckless driving in the country.

“The Government should do away with IMIS and concentrate on settling agro dealers, farmers, transporters and paying pension benefits. Because despite having engaged them we have not seen results and there is nothing that they can say the people of Zambia were benefiting from the same,” he said.

He said the Government should seriously relook into the matter as it was of great concern to the country.

Mr Mtayachalo said there was no way a company could be engaged to provide a service to the country but close to more than two years, there was nothing to show for when money was exchanged.

In 2017 Government through RTSA signed a public private partnership concession agreement with IMS for the implementation of the Road Safety Management System.

He questioned what safety measures were being implemented when the country’s road carnage was increasing instead of reducing, with this year showing an increment from the previous years.
