THE Central Province Education Board Office has urged the girl pupils in the province to report any sexual harassment from male teachers to the school management. The following are comments from our online edition : www.facebook.com/dailynationews

Banda Andrew Frank: What of the cases of management being the ones at the centre stage of making sexual advances where does the pupil go?

Be careful with some of these uncensored statements you issue. Advise openly that Teachers regardless of their position should treat pupils as their children and not sexual partners.

Lord Have Mercy: Where does that leave boy pupils? Yes, the girl-child was once marginalised. Unfortunately this is now shifting to the boy-child. What we need is to cater for both rather than pay too much attention to one leaving out the other.

Lombe Magdalene: Child abuse is rampant in society and more especially in schools. It is hardly surprising that male teachers take advantage of girl pupils. Unfortunately, some girls fear that unless they give in to the demands of the teachers, then they will fail exams. Because pupils are dependent on teachers, it is easy for them to fall prey to the whims of the only voice of authority they know.

Mutima Wandi: Sad that teachers actually do this. Where is this world going to mwebantu. People send children to school to learn and be tutored, not to find boyfriends. Government should devise some stiffer punishment for culprits to deter would-be offenders.

Mukuka Tinah Mutale: Yes, it is too much of these teachers abusing girls. I doubt that the girl pupils will have the courage to report the teachers. The consequences are too dear.

Chessy M: I think the government has proper statistics of where these sexual activities involving teachers and pupils are rampant. Those are the schools that should be targeted. I remember such in Mkushi where teachers took pupils for a drinking spree and suspected sex orgy. Now my question is, what has happened to that case? The nation is yet to be told what happened.

Trisha Mulenga: Not just Central Province please. This information should be for every pupil in every part of the country. Whether private or government, girl-pupils suffer abuse in one way or the other. It is important that all girl-pupils are sensitised about this. Girls feel vulnerable because these are adults and in authority who are doing this to them.
