Don’t misbehave, clergyman counsels Zambians

- By CHARLES MUSONDA

A SENIOR clergyman has urged Zambians to be sober minded and avoid troublesome behaviour this festive season.

In an interview, Bible Gospel Church in Africa (BIGOCA) Archbishop Peter Ndhlovu said this is not the time for people to over drink alcohol and irritate others “There are so many youths who have never drank but they want to practice drinking, they would like to womanise but they have never womanised before. This is a time to enjoy with your family. “I would like to pray that Zambians will reach a point where they will know that 25th December is like any other day on the calendar, same hours, same minutes, and the same sun. It is the same day like tomorrow and therefore don’t over spend,” Archbishop Ndhlovu said.

He urged parents to know that January was coming when they would need to pay school fees and meet other school requirements for their children.

He said people must know that excess spending was not necessary and they needed to celebrate and fellowship with their families. Archbishop Ndhlovu also hoped for an incident free festive period unlike in the past when Zambia had recorded a high number of deaths through road accidents and other incidences arising from excitement mostly under the influence of alcohol.

“We are praying as a church that lives are saved and that this time people are not going to misbehave. We don’t want to see people in police cells, we don’t want to see people in jail. We don’t want to see people beating their wives just because they are drunk. Let us continue to love one another. This is just a day and there is another day coming tomorrow,” Archbishop Ndhlovu said.
