Chief Lundu advocates diversification
CHIEF Lundu of the Senga speaking people of Chama, has called on his subjects to practice crop diversification and produce more crops.
The traditional leader said practicing crop diversification will boost household food security in the area.
He said people should not only depend on one crop but should diversify to other crops such as groundnuts, millet, soya beans, sun flower, among others. The chief has also urged farmers not to cultivate in flood prone areas to safe guard their crops.
Chief Lundu said the district had always recorded serious floods especially in the months of January and February hence the need for people to take precautions by not cultivating in flood prone areas and also ensure that they live on higher lands. He further advised his subjects to avoid crossing flooded rivers and streams so that they are not attacked by crocodiles and hippos.
Meanwhile, Chama South Member of Parliament, Davison Mungandu says plans to connect the constituency to the national grid through Chasefu, have advanced. Mr
Mungandu said in an interview in Chama, that the contractor Sino Hydro engaged to take power to Chama South Constituency, is making remarkable progress.
He also disclosed that construction of seven communication towers through the Zambia Information and
Communication Technologies Authority (ZICTA) had been completed. Government has embarked on the construction of communication towers throughout the country and 400 were earmarked for this year in addition to over 600 that were erected last year.
