Brazil fertiliser company eyes Zambia
ZAMBIA'S Ambassador to Brazil, Alfreda Mwamba says Brazil's leading phosphate fertiliser company, Agronelli, has started analyzing Zambian soil in order to manufacture drought-conquering fertiliser for the country.
Dr Mwamba visited Agronelli, the South America's hub of fertiliser, to present samples of Zambian soil from the University of Zambia School of Agricultural Sciences.
She said a team of researchers at the fertiliser firm have started studying Zambian soil to determine suitable fertiliser that can deal with drought stricken areas.
Dr Mwamba said the fertiliser had the capacity to boost the yields of crop production.
And Agronelli has also announced that Zambia is among other African countries that have been invited to the 2020 Agro technology advancement exchange conference in Brazil.
Agronelli president, Marco Tulio Paolinelli told Dr Mwamba that his company had embarked on technology transfer in agro equipment to African countries.
He called for more investment in the agriculture industry in African countries and particularly in Zambia.
He noted that the move has the capacity to improve the Gross Domestic Product of the country and boost the economy.
Dr Mwamba welcomed Agronelli's initiative and assured the Brazilian firm that Zambia was on a similar path and that acquiring new technology would help the country improve the performance of the Agriculture industry.
Agronelli supplies phosphate fertiliser to over 200 000 small scale and commercial Brazilian farmers and earns US$50 million from sales.
This is according to a statement made available in Lusaka by First Secretary Press and Public Relations at the Zambian Embassy in Brazil, Grace Makowane. -
