Zambia hosts four-nation training camp
ZAMBIA will this monthend host a four-nation training camp for athletes set to compete in the 2020 African Para Games.
The four-nation training camp scheduled for January 26-30, will draw participation from Guniea Bissau, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
The first-ever African Para Games which have been rescheduled to unknown dates after Morocco withdrew from hosting the event which was set for this month will act as a qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Paralympics.
National Paralympic Committee of Zambia (NPCZ) general secretary Moses Chishimba said National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka will be the host for the training camp aimed at preparing athletes for the games.
“This training camp is very beneficial to Zambia as it will heighten competition levels among our athletes while the coaches can learn two or three things from their counterparts,” Chishimba said.
He said NPCZ is also expected to host a workshop to train coaches in blind football.
He explained that the association intends to introduce football for the blind or visually impaired (played as seven aside), therefore the need to train coaches that would later identify talented athletes.
Chishimba announced that an eight-member team has been picked to represent Zambia in the Para Games.

Runners are Nassam Katongo, Christopher Mukoshe, Loud Moonga, Mafunase Phiri, Joseph Lungu, Monica Munga and Alex Ziba while Richard Lubanza will compete in Power lifting.
