Nkana water resumes Buchi rehabilitation works
NKANA Water and Sewerage Company (NWSC) has resumed rehabilitation works on its water and sewerage supply systems in Buchi township of Kitwe after resolving misunderstandings with the car wash dealers along Kazembe road
NWSC Public Relations Officer Agness Simwinga and Manager Technical Derrick Ntonyo confirmed that the water utility and the community particularly, the car wash dealers, had resolved their misunderstandings.
Ms Simwinga said the utility company was now resuming the works following an engagement meeting held with the youths and the local leadership through the office of the Nkana Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Alexander Chiteme
In November last year, the rehabilitation works which were being done under the US$200 million phase two project, were halted after harassment of the officers from the water utility company and the contractors by suspected youth gangs.
In an interview at the weekend, Ms Simwinga said the rehabilitation works would mostly be replacement of sewer lines in the township
“As you know, we could not continue with our project of replacing sewer lines in Buchi township because of the hostilities and harassment of our officers and the contractor. After this development, we engaged the community and the car wash dealers.
“Following the engagement, and we will now be resuming the rehabilitation works after resolving misunderstandings with the car wash dealers along Kazembe road,’’ Ms Simwinga said
Ms Simwinga said the contractor was now on the ground mobilizing and assessing where works could start from stating that once the assessment was done, works would resume.
