- BY PETER MALASHA

Mkushi based upcoming motor sport young riders have been picked to represent Zambia in Uganda in the African cup of nations championship slated for August.

Shane and Caitlin Sparkes aged 13 and 11 respectively were selected to carry the national flag following their brilliant performances during the recent motor sport competition held in Mkushi.

Shane, has already won sponsorship by Lusaka based company Lift and Shift trucking (Z) Limited to see him through to Uganda while the sister Caitlin was still looking for sponsors.

Following the development, Zambia Motor Sport Association (ZMAS) has expressed gratitude over the development.

In an interview, association President Sam Chingambu said the vision and deliberate policy of taping talent in rural areas as well as making the sport affordable as opposed to restricting along the line of rail, had started bearing fruits.

Chingambu said the association was happy with the two hardworking brother and sister for their gallant and good performances and that they were following the foot steps of Leah Heygate the five times African champion and brother Scott.

Chingambu said the association was excited to hear that Shane had been sponsored by Lift and Shift Trucking (Z) Limited company dealing in haulage.

In this regard, Chingambu has appealed to the corporate world to come on board and sponsor Caitlin as well.

Chingambu further said the association would put heads together and ensure that both brother and sister had sponsors to compete favourably in August, at the African tournament.

Chingambu added that the vision of the association was to spread motor sport across the country.

Chingambu further hailed owner of Cropit Farm Stewart Parkes for hosting the recent tournament and spearheading motor sport in Mkushi.

Meanwhile, Caitlin said she was proud to represent Zambia in the Africa cup of nations in Uganda at the age of 11.
