Mpika man axes wife, 3 children to death

A MPIKA man has been arrested for killing his wife and children after a dispute by smashing their heads with an axe.

Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Joel Njase identified the suspect as Royd Mwango Kampamba, 24, of Kaole Kapwasha village in Chief Chikwanda's area of Mpika district.

Mr Njase said the incident occurred yesterday between 00:00 hours and 02:00hours in Kaole village.

Mr Njase said uncle to the suspect ,Leo Nyasaland ,46 who was also Leo village Headman reported that his nephew Kampamba had brutally killed his wife and three children using an axe.

The police chief said police officers that rushed to the scene found  the four bodies in the thatched house. The victims were identified as Prisca Mumbi 25, who had a cut and the right side of the head was smashed with bloody brain particles coming out, Daniel Mwango 6 had a cut and the left side of the head was smashed with a cut on the left cheek, Grace Mwango 4 had the back of the head smashed and Gabriel Mwango aged 1 year 6 months who had a smashed forehead.

"Brief facts are that the suspect who is believed to have come from drinking beer, killed the family whilst they were sleeping," Mr Njase said.

The Police Commissioner said there was no sign of any confusion seen nor heard by neighbours.

He said it is believed that the suspect fled to Leo Nyasaland his uncle to request for transport money to go to Kapiri and after questioning, revealed that he had killed his wife when they had a dispute .
