THE Patriotic Front government's interventi­on in early marriages has curbed the vice in Luombwa in Chitambo district in Central Province a civic leader has said.

Luombwa Ward councillor Evans Sabe said in an interview the measures put in place by Government had seen a reduction in early marriages.

Mr Sabe said the government policy of promoting education for all in rural communitie­s was one of the factors that had helped reduce the vice.

Mr Sabe said parents were now aware that marrying off children at tender ages at the expense of education, was a cost than sending them to school.

Mr Sabe said also, traditiona­l and community leaders were working together to ensure that the child or mariage marriage was eradicated.

Communitie­s had been sensitised and told to report early marriages to relevant authoritie­s.

Government has been working with traditiona­l leaders, the Church and non-government­al organisati­ons to curb early and child marriages especially in rural communitie­s.
