Nakacinda escapes attack

“I was in Kafue where I retreat every weekend from my busy schedule. Those characters were sent by Nevers Mumba to my house to attack me and had even came with reporters from Prime TV and The Mast newspaper. They arrived around 08:30.

POLICE in Kafue yesterday thwarted a possible bloodbath after some Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) cadres allegedly sent by party president, Nevers Mumba, attempted to attack nominated Member of Parliament, Raphael Nakacinda at his residence.

Narrating his ordeal to the Daily Nation last evening, Mr. Nakacinda said he was at one of his places in Kafue with a few of his followers when a team of cadres invaded the area in the company of reporters from Prime TV and the Mast newspaper.

“I was in Kafue where I retreat every weekend from my busy schedule. Those characters were sent by Nevers Mumba to my house to attack me and had even came with reporters from Prime TV and The Mast newspaper. They arrived around 08:30.

“The fortunate part is that some of our members had come early in the morning before I went to church to consult over the next programme especially after coming from Luangwa yesterday (Saturday). That is when we had that surprise visit,” Mr. Nakacinda said.

He thanked the police for their quick intervention after they were alerted about the impending attack saying had they tarried, the whole episode would have ended in ugly scenes from the two sides’ clash.

“I appreciate that the police were alert.

When we phoned them, they came in time. Otherwise, we were going to have a bloody incidence of people, clashing at my place. They (Dr. Mumba’s group) have decided to take the law in their own hands and this is very unfortunate.

“If we are going to play politics like that without civility where someone just wakes up and goes to attack another person or sends thugs to attack another someone, how will we live in this society?” he asked.

He described Dr. Mumba as wolf in a sheep’s skin who prided in violence and that records were there to show that he cherished the vice going by the number of people who were attacked at his instigation.

“I know that Nevers Mumba is violent but pretends when he is out there. That is the same thing he did to Professor Geoffrey Lungwangwa and Richard Kachingwe.

“Bradford Machila was at some point earmarked to be harassed and this is what they attempted to do to Kapembwa Simbao when he was national secretary. That is his life. He is a very violent man. He is a wolf in a sheep skin,” he said.

Efforts to get a comment from police spokesperson Esther Katongo proved futile as her mobile phone went answered but police sources said some of the cadres were arrested. Dr Mumba’s phone was off.
