Back Bill 10, MPs told

- By MUYANI SHINJABALE

WE don’t want to lose the Amendment Bill 10 as it is an important piece of legislation, says Patriotic Front Copperbelt chairperson, Nathan Chanda.

Mr Chanda appealed to all Members of Parliament to represent the Amendment Bill objectively in parliament in order to not lose the important piece of legislation like what happened to the Bill of Rights.

In an interview yesterday, he said the Bill of rights failed to go through due to misinformation and propaganda, which should not be the case for the Amendment Bill 10.

Mr Chanda, hailed the clergy for taking time to provide a platform to discuss the contents of the Amendment Bill with the

Copperbelt MPs.

He said the move to invite MPs from all political parties to take a leading role in the constitutional amendment was commendable.

Mr Chanda said the clergy did not take a political stance but were objective in the presentation of their concerns and suggestions.

He indicated that it was discovered that a lot of misinformation had been provided for the amendment Bill stating that it had been politicised.

Mr Chanda said the piece of legislation was bigger than political parties and individuals stating that there was need for self- introspection especially for MPs as they go back to Parliament.

He also condemned the abuse of social media by malicious individuals who had caused a lot of panic and alarm in the province.

He stated that the move of causing alarm with allegations of ritual killings was a well calculated move by some individuals who wanted to show that governance on the Copperbelt was not doing well.
