POLICE COMMISSION INEPT, SAYS TONGA

- By OLIVER SAMBOKO

THEPolice Public Complaints Commission (PPCC) should ensure all complaints against erring police officers are promptly resolved, Third Liberation Movement (TLM) president Enock Tonga has said.

Commenting on a matter where a Police officer at Woodlands Police station has been reported to the Commission for shielding a suspected, Mr. Tonga said PPCC was not performing to the expectation of the people of Zambia.

He said the Commission had many complaints that were not being resolved and wondered why it should continue to exist.

Mr Tonga said the Commission should be disbanded because it was only a drain on the taxpayers’ money.

He said President Edgar Lungu should consider disbanding and reconstituting the PPCC or get rid of it completely because it was not serving the intended purpose to resolve complaints by the public against Police misconduct.

Mr. Tonga said some of the people appointed to the Commission were a let down and doing little to resolve the complaints brought to it by the public and saw no need for its continued existence.

He observed that instead of doing the work they are been paid for, the commissioners were just there to enjoy taxpayers money.

Mr. Tonga said many citizens were complaining about the way the PPCC was operating and saw no need of allowing it continue operating.

“The people of Zambia cannot continue paying PPCC commissioners for doing nothing, so the President must disband it and save the money for other national needs than wasting it on something that was not benefiting the people of Zambia,” he said. Mr Tonga also called for serious reforms and changes in the Police service to met people’s expectations.
