STOP INCITING PEOPLE, DC CAUTIONS CLERGY
District Commissioner Binwell Mpundu has advised clergymen not to use their influence to set the country ablaze through misinformation and inciting people.
Mr Mpundu said clergymen should use their influence to reconcile various conflicting parties and ensure that there was peace, tolerance and understanding and unity in the country
Mr Mpundu was speaking on Wednesday when he addressed clergymen from various churches at Oasis of Love Ministries church on the rising crime situation in the district
He advised clergymen to desist from making statements on the crime situation when they had no facts or else they would be perceived to be misleading or inciting the members of the public
“As a government, we have respect for the clergymen and the church and so, we would not like a situation where a clergyman is arrested for inciting the people.
“This is why I am pleading with you, not to make comments on the crime situation if you don’t have facts or accurate information because you will be perceived to be inciting people and you will be arrested. I would not like any of you to be arrested for inciting people,” Mr Mpundu said.
He said clergymen should not use their influence to incite members of the public to become riotous.
He said the current crime situation was not far from political and people should not allow themselves to be used to engage in lawlessness activities because they may lose lives or they may get injured in the process.
He said while he could not confirm that it was political, he was sure that it was not far from being political because of the indications so far.
He said some named political were trying to destabilize the city so that they could create an impression that the government had failed to govern.
“This situation is not very far from being political because we have indications showing that some political party may be behind this confusion to destabilize the area and cause confusion,” Mr Mpundu said.
