ZESCO ready to ‘scorch’ TP Mazembe

- By GRACE CHAILE LESOETSA

ALTHOUGH booted out of the 2019/2020 CAF Champions League race, George “Chicken” Lwandamina says the team will put everything into the game against multi- time champions TP Mazembe to safeguard the integrity of Zesco United.

Speaking yesterday on arrival in the Democratic Republic of Congo capital city, Lubumbashi, Lwandamina said it was time the team got back the winning rhythm after a rough road.

“I know we are out but this last Group fixture is very important. We have the prestige and integrity to protect. We will go into this game with the will to do better.

Of late we have not done so well even in the local league and we have to find where to start from and it could be this game,” he said.

He said the team have a task to rekindle the trust of their supporters and sponsors who have lately been subjected to a dismal run.

He was however happy that the morale in camp was still high despite coming from a 2-1 loss to Kabwe Warriors a day ago.

“Though we are coming from a loss, still players want to do better, they also have their names to protect. I want that emotional fight which Zesco is renowned of. We have to put our acts to together to impress our fans and sponsors, it has not been a good road,” he said.

Zesco face TP Mazembe tomorrow in the last Group a fixture.

TP Mazembe and Zamalek qualified to the knock-out stage over Zesco and Primeiro Agosto of Angola.

Meanwhile, Zesco club chief executive officer Richard Mulenga said the club’s executive was concerned with the mixed results being recorded by the league champions.

“We wish to inform you our loyal supporters that management at the club is equally worried with the recent spate of results. I further wish to disclose that the club through its executive is making efforts to address the challenges the team is currently facing, “he said.

He called on the fans to continue to rally behind the team as the club fights to get back to winning ways.
