Lungu hails Zambia, Zimbabwe ties
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has reaffirmed Zambia's commitment to cooperate with Zimbabwe and implement joint project beneficial to citizens of both countries.
President Lungu who described the two countries' bond as that of the Siamese twins, said Zambia and Zimbabwe were inseparable, as the relations dates back to the pre-independence era during the liberation struggle. The President said because of the strong bond that exists between the two nations, Zambia got worried when draught hit Zimbabwe because citizens from both countries were affected.
"Zambia feels for Zimbabwe, and I know Zimbabwe feels for Zambia. We are so close that people have identified us as siamese twins, and others have described us as not only friends but neighbours," President Lungu said.
He said his government would continue promoting and enhancing the cordial partnership that had existed for many years in all spheres between the two countries.
The Head of State said this yesterday when outgoing Zimbabwean High Commissioner to Zambia Gertrude Takawira paid him a courtesy call at State House to bid farewell.
Ms Takawira thanked President Lungu and the Zambian people for the support and hospitality rendered to her during the tour of duty.
She also hailed Zambia's contribution to Zimbabwe's struggle for independence.
Ms Takawira said her country was grateful for the humanitarian assistance Zambia rendered to Zimbabwe when it was faced with severe draught.
