Police warn against anarchy
WE shall not tolerate lawlessness in Chilubi, political parties must desist from engaging in violence, Northern Province Commissioner of Police Richard Mweene has warned.
Mr Mweene said that the police would not allow any political party to cause confusion in the area.
He said in an interview yesterday that any political party which would engage in political violence would face the wrath of the law.
“The police will continue to is found wanting, they will be set as an example to others who intend to engage in the same activities,” he said.
Political parties participating in the by-elections, Mr Mweene said, must conduct their activities peacefully without causing mayhem in the area.

“All political parties need to restrain themselves from any act of violence because we shall not tolerate this. No one will be singled out if found wanting, as police we shall ensure that perpetrators are arrested,” Mr Mweene said.
He also warned political parties to desist from using offensive weapons as it was against the law.
“Anyone found with offensive weapons will be arrested and will definitely serve a jail sentence because it is against the law,” he said.
“It is a pity that some people want to use offensive weapons instead of conducting their activities peacefully. Such people will not be spared, they will be arrested,” he said.
Mr Mweene however said that currently the situation in Chilubi was peaceful.
He said that even after one of the United Party for National Development (UPND) official was found with offensive weapons, no violence had been recorded.
