COACHES SEE RED
FORMER national soccer team coach Honor Janza says that it was disrespectful to insinuate that coaching in Zambia was a disaster when the country had a lot of qualified coaches that had won trophies.
And Zambia Football Coaches Association (ZaFCA) presidenr Dan Kabwe says they would seek clarification from FAZ president Andrew Kamanga over a statement attributed to him saying coaching in Zambia was a disaster.
Speaking to the Nation Sport from his base in eSwatini, Janza said Zambia had more coaches who are qualified than other countries in Africa by statistics with CAF ‘A’ 'B’ and ‘C’ being the recognised licence in Africa.
Janza who is a Zambian CAF instructor for coaches said that it was a big insult to Zambian coaches and misplacement by the FAZ president to issue such a statement.
“I think he must have wanted to say something meaningful using the borrowed word disaster from politicians. But he needed to put his thoughts right before using it on Zambian coaches in the contest he has used it. I don't share his sentiments and it's very disrespectful to coaches,” Janza said. He however called on FAZ to instead address the grassroots level saying that was where there was need for structures.
“He must address the grassroots level that is where we need structures and more teachers to be trained as football youth coaches and not to attack the coaching staff at professional level,” Janza said.
He said that coaches were too professional and as such there was need to address them with respect just as they respected the administration in football.
And Kabwe expressed displeasure as the president on the use of the word disaster as he was quoted on Wednesday.
Kabwe however said he had instructed his general secretary to get clarification from the FAZ president.
Speaking on Wednesday at the Youth Coaches course in Ndola, Kamanga said FAZ had put in place short, medium and long term interventions to restore the standard of coaching in Zambia.
He cited the Youth Coaches Course as a short term measure of ensuring quality coaches at junior level and in the long term FAZ would send coaches for further training in Europe.
“We have declared coaching in Zambia a disaster and FAZ is taking drastic steps to address the matter through short, medium and long term interventions,” Kamanga said.
