‘UPND thugs disrupted Bill 10 debate’

- By NATION REPORTER

IT IS the United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres from Southern Province who disrupted the debate on Bill 10 at Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka last evening, Kabwe Central Member of Parliament Tutwa Ngulube has charged.

IT IS the United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres from Southern Province who disrupted the debate on Bill 10 at Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka last evening, Kabwe Central Member of Parliament Tutwa Ngulube has charged.

Police last evening watched haplessly as unknown people disrupted the debate on Bill 10 hosted by the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ).

But speaking to the Daily Nation after the meeting was disrupted, Mr. Ngulube said he knew the people who disrupted the meeting and that he was available to help police with information if they needed his help.

“PF cadres could not have come here to disrupt a lawful meeting like this and it has never happened. I saw some of those people that walked here and I can identify quite a number. I can tell you that most of those people are not even Lusaka residents. Some people are from Mazabuka, Kafue and I saw some guys from Siavonga. Those are not PF cadres.

“Those guys are from Southern Province and I am sure they were brought here before the programme started and were told exactly what time they were going to enter this meeting. Those guys were ferried from Southern Province to cause this commotion,” Mr. Ngulube said.

He said the PF condemned the intolerance that always happened during debates.

“We have seen people failing to appreciate and accommodate other people’s views. The same way it happened last time when I was debating and people rose and attacked me. The same things happened today when I was about to start talking about Bill 10 to try and show people that what our colleagues are saying is different from what is contained in the bill.

“From nowhere, the mob walked in. We must condemn this belief in cadres because you can breed a cadre of cadres but they might turn up against them. These people coming with cadres to these debates should come to the realisation that it is not necessary,” he said.

He said he was capable of identifying the people who disrupted the meeting because his people took videos and pictures.

“We can debate without cadres. I must distance the PF. These were not PF cadres. We know our cadres and are very disciplined.

“I am able to identify them if the police want more information. Fortunately enough, I had my guys who took short videos and photos. We were alert, we knew such thing was going to happen, so we were ready,” he said.
