Five Kabwe families gassed

FIVE households in Kabwe fell victims of gassing in the early of yesterday, the Daily Nation has learnt.

he five families were gassed around hours in Kasanda Mine Township and Makandanya­ma area.

One of the victims, Emeldah Mutale, of Kasanda Mine area narrated in an interview with the Daily Nation that her house was gassed around hours.

Ms Mutale explained that she was awakened by some noise on her bedroom window and experience­d severe irritation in her eyes.

At the time of the interview, Ms Mutale could not see properly as she experience­d some irritation in her eyes.

She explained that after the incident, she alerted her neighbours, who advised her to soak a cloth in water and cover her face in order to subdue the effects of the chemical.

“ heard a noise on the window around hours and when I peeped through, something entered my eyes and I screamed to my children that we have been sprayed. We all gathered in the house and phoned our neighbours,” Ms Mutale narrated.

And Demson Chanda, a concerned resident of Makandanya­ma, said the people in the area felt neglected.

Mr Chanda wondered why Government had not deployed the Zambia Army in Kabwe to bring down gangs that were gassing and terrorizin­g people at night.

Another resident, Simon Mwila, urged the police to work with the neighbourh­ood watch groups that have been formed in communitie­s through the help of the local leadership.
