Promote domestic tourism, Zambians urged
ZAMBIANS should begin to appreciate and promote domestic tourism in order to grow the econmy, Government has advised. Tourism and Arts Minister Ronald Chitotela said that time had come for the domestic tourism to thrive and move to another level. He observed that if well appreciated and promoted, domestic tourism could create more jobs and contribute to sustainable development in the country. The Minister was speaking when he paid courtesy call on Livingstone acting District Commissioner Harriet Kawina yesterday. “We have come to see how the tourism Industry is doing in Livingstone. For the tourism sector and Livingstone being the Tourist Capital of Zambia, we felt it is important for us to begin to appreciate tourism. “We want to grow the economy away from mining and agriculture. Therefore, what we are doing in Livingstone will have great impact on our economy,” Mr Chitotela said. He added that was important for the country to adequately attract tourists to visit Zambia. The Minister said there was need to develop the Southern Circuit and be able to host tourists and conferences. “We need to get maximum benefits from our tourists. We want to invite the citizens of this country to begin appreciating domestic tourism because it creates sustainable business. The Minister further observed the need for Zambians to continue promoting peace and unity which the country continue to enjoy. Earlier, Ms Kawina said that Mr Chitotela’s visit will add value to the promotion of tourism in the country. Mr Chitotela, who is on a familiarisation tour of Southern Province, also paid a courtesy call on Livingstone Mayor ugene apuwo at his office.
