Ignore detractors, PS urges district heads

- By SANDRA MACHIMA

District heads of departments in Southern Province have been implored to commit to their duties and ignore people who want to discredit government, Southern Province Permanent Secretary Mwangala Liomba has charged.

Mr Liomba said it was the responsibility of all the government officials to take up leadership and be in-charge of the development projects in the district.

This, he said, would ensure that resources were channeled towards what was budgeted for.

“As fathers of the district it is in the best interest to ensure that development trickled down to the needy in society especially that government is willing to distribute resources to all corners of the country,” he said.

He warned those in charge of resources not to risk being seen as saboteurs of government development policies if the money which was sent to the district was not seen to be producing desired results.

Mr Liomba’s remarks come in the wake of some contractors’ failure to complete projects and relaxed supervision by the district implementation team.

He urged contractors and the Strengthening Climate Resilience in The Kafue SubBasin district implementation team to complete and hand over the projects to the community as scheduled without any further delay.

Mr Liomba who met the district team in the presence of the Head of departments in Monze district of Southern province urged the team to report anyone who goes to their offices using the name of the President with intent to gain advantage over others.

He told officials in the district to be mindful that they were custodians of the resources of the people of Monze hence the need to ensure that resources were prudently utilised according to expectations.
