ACC a disappointment - Chief Chikwanda

- By PETER SICHALI

IT is disappointing that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has taken a partisan stance in its fight against corruption by targeting only those in government, Chief Chikwanda of Mpika has said.

Chief Chikwanda said ACC had failed to deal with straight forward cases when it was established by an Act of Parliament to fight graft across all sections of society.

He said it was saddening to note that ACC has continued to target only those in government ignoring other sectors.

Chief Chikwanda said his royal establishment had reported a matter regarding the property left by the construction company whose proceeds remains a mystery a year ago but to no avail.

"We are witnessing now is clearly lack of understanding of the roles of the Anti Corruption Commission, how can we have an institution whose sole objective is to investigate those in government and no one else," Chief Chikwanda wondered.

He said the ACC was established to deal with all corruption related cases regardless of who is behind as opposed to only targeting those in government.

Chief Chikwanda said it was disappointing that the ACC had failed to investigate well documented cases but have focused on those in government.

"What has the ACC done on those that have externalised funds in offshore accounts?” he said.

Chief Chikwanda noted that the Anti Corruption Commission should reflect on its mandate and ensure it investigates and prosecutes all suspected corruption cases without being selective.

He noted that it was unfortunate that the commission had taken a partisan stance in its fight against corruption.
