EXPRESS DEALS CITED FOR CLUBS’ BREAKING TRANSFER RULES AND REGULATIONS

- By GRACE CHAILE LESOETSA

LUBS want a “quick fix” for results but their desperation makes them blind to player transfer rules and regulations, says Football Association of

Zambia (FAZ) vice-president Rix Mweemba.

Reacting to the transfer bans slapped on Nkana and Lusaka Dynamos by FIFA, Mweemba said the local soccer body was saddened by the development as it painted a bad image on the Zambian game.

He said usually most clubs want to see immediate results and therefore rush to acquire foreign players who they have to pay huge sums of money at the expense of the club revenue.

“It’s mostly desperation or a ‘quick fix’. They want immediate results but without planning or don’t want to implement development practices. To get a good result, clubs should begin to build on it by having a proper plan incase plan A fails, what will be the plan B,” he said.

He said the ban on Nkana and Dynamos should be a learning point for all Zambia clubs to abide to rules and regulations of player transfers.

Mweemba also called on the clubs not to work in isolation but to engage the mother body to avoid such incidences in future.

He said FAZ will sit down and devise measures that can stop history from repeating itself.

“This is a learning curve for everyone in football. Learning lessons for clubs that they should always abide by the FIFA rules and regulations on player transfer. Let them assess their revenue before acquiring some of these foreign players who sometimes fail to deliver,” he said.

FIFA prohibited the two teams from doing any transfers in the next three transfer windows.

Nkana was banned because of former goalkeeper Steven Adams who the club owed money and has since been advised not to make any transfers until the player was paid.

Nkana was ordered to pay the Ghanaian goalkeeper US$27, 000 plus five percent interest per annum from May 2019 for breach of contract.

The 35-year-old joined Nkana FC after signing a three-year deal on a free transfer in January 2018 but had his contract terminated after just six months.

Lusaka Dynamos were last year docked six points by FIFA after failing to comply with a directive to settle all dues owed to the Ghanaian duo of Sheriff Deen and Abdul Latif Mohammed during the 2019 transitional league.
