BEEF UP SECURITY, ORDERS BRE

- By SANDRA MACHIMA

THE Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) has ordered village headmen to form traditional security committees that will work with the police to protect people in the region.

BRE acting Ngambela Induna Mukulakashiko (Mowa Zambwe) said it was babaric and strange that the nation had been hit by a spate of gassing incidents that was spreading at a high rate to instill fear in innocent citizens.

He said it was vital that traditional leaders beef up security in the area to help the police bring to book perpetrators.

Induna Mukulakashiko said this had resulted in mob injustice against innocent people who were perceived suspects to cause panic and instill fear to citizens.

He said inhuman criminal acts would not be accepted in the province as the region was well known by its valued culture and tradition.

“Let us respect human life and property and exercise our culture that values respect for human life," he said.

The traditional leader urged the people not to take the law in their own hands, but cooperate with law enforcers to ensure security.

The BRE has since ordered the removal of temporary makeshift squatter settlements along the highways.

The Kuta called upon the fisheries department and other departments to cooperate and ensure law was enforced to bring sanity in the region.

“We are appealing to the people to stop moving at night unnecessarily, but should cooperate with the police in trying to provide security," he said.
