I’m fit to stand in 2021 – Wina
I AM very fit, energetic and ready to stand in next year’s general elections, Vice president Inonge Wina has said.
The vice president said contrary to opinions by some people that she should retire, she is still very fit, energetic and ready to stand in next year’s elections.
Ms. Wina said she would be actively involved in the elections next year as the ruling Patriotic Front still has a lot to offer the Zambians.
‘’ I am still very energetic and ready to stand in next year’s elections and campaign for my party,’’ Ms. Wina said.
She has also urged women wanting to be adopted in various political positions to start preparing now by getting in touch with the grass roots.
Speaking in relation to numerous concerns by women movements that there are very few women taking part in politics, Ms. Wina said women should ensure that they were just of prepared as the men if they were to be adopted by political parties.
Ms. Wina said it was not right for women to want to be adopted based on gender when they had not prepared.
‘’We want to have more women in politics but that does not mean they will be adopted just because they are female, they need to prepare and make themselves known to the grassroots for them to be adopted.
Ms. Wina said it is not just about having more women in politics but having women who are prepared and ready to lead the masses.
The vice president was speaking yesterday when she interacted with media houses to talk about this year’s International women’s day celebrations.
And Ms. Wina says this year’s theme I am generation Equality; realising women’s rights had come at the right time when the country was working towards achieving the agenda Planet 50-50 by 2030.
Ms. Wina said the Patriotic Front government had put strategic measures in place to ensure women’s rights were realised to have gender equality in all spheres.
She said President Edgar Lungu had on many occasions led by example by showing his commitment towards bridging the gap between men and women.
‘’As the Patriotic Front government we want to see to it that women have equal rights and opportunities with men and the Head of State is a champion of gender equality,” she said.
