KAVINDELE CAUTIONS LAZ
…To respect ConCourt judgement on Lungu eligibility.
THE Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) must respect the Constitutional Court judgment on eligibility of President Edgar Lungu because it was done in accordance with the Constitution, former Republican Vice President Enock Kavindele says.
Mr Kavindele said it was prudent that LAZ respected the ruling because all the Constitution Court did was to follow the laid down laws of the country.
He said in an exclusive interview yesterday, that the highly respected Judges passed the judgement on firm ground of the Constitution which was the supreme law of the land.
It is therefore important that the association and other people respect what was passed by the Constitutional Court, he said.
"We cannot choose which judgement suits us and which others you can want to contest. In this particular case the Concourt ruled, so I think for the purpose of enhancing democracy we should accept what the courts ruled otherwise this debate will destract us from other important issues such us focusing on the economy.
There are a lot of things that are wrong in our economy as of now, so let's focus on sorting out this economy as opposed to continue debating a matter which the courts have already passed judgment on.
"There is no other court which we can go to other than the Constitutional Court with the same issue, we should just accept the Concourt decision and focus on other pressing issues," Mr Kavindele said.
The former vice president under the Mwanawansa regime said no one had powers to change the decision which was made by the court of appeal.
He said it was important that people respected the decision because laws of the country were followed to pass the judgement.
