It’s a political gimmick, says Kapata

- By AARON CHIYANZO

IT is a political gimmick for the United Party for National Development (UPND) to start attending national events now that the 2021 elections are near, Patriotic Front national chairperson for women Jean Kapata has said.

Ms Kapata who however welcomed the turn-around stance of the UPND observed that the opposition party had been shunning all national events since PF came to power.

This follows the decision by UPND to participate in the commemoration of this year's Women's Day on Monday.

Ms Kapata wondered the sudden change of mind by the UPND to join the rest of the country in Women’s Day celebrations.

She said in an interview that it was all part of a campaign plan to hoodwink Zambians and win political mileage.

Ms Kapata, who is Lands and Natural Resources minister observed that UPND wanted to look mature in the face of Zambians to gain support.

She however said the plan would backfire because Zambians already knew that UPND did not care about their plight.

Ms Kapata said the party was engulfed with a selfish agenda of securing entry to State House at the expense of citizens’ well-being.

“The UPND are welcome now that they have finally decided to start attending national events but we all know that it’s a political gimmick to win political mileage. They have shunned all national events since power formed Government, so why start now when the 2021 elections are around the corner,” she said.

Ms Kapata said UPND was panicking now that the 2021 elections were around the corner because they had realised that PF would still carry the day.

She said the opposition party would stop at nothing to ensure that it remained relevant in the eyes of Zambians and that it was the reason it was now going against its principles.

And Ms Kapata challenged UPND to support Bill 10 if they really mean well for the country this time around.

She said there was no way the constitution should be subjected to reviews every now and then, saying it was now a chance to work on lacunas.

The UPND are welcome now that they have finally decided to start attending national events but we all know that it s a political gimmick to win political mileage. They have shunned all national events since power formed Government, so why start now when the 2021 elections are around the corner.
