MP applauds women’s attainments
GOVERNMENT says it attaches great importance to women development as it helps eliminate various social hurdles and enhancement of living standards of rural communities.
Msanzala Member of Parliament, Peter Daka said this when he officiated at the International Women’s day commemorations in Msanzala Constituency in Petauke.
Mr. Daka said the Constitution recognises the principles of gender equality and non- discrimination as fundamental rights.
Mr. Daka highlighted the successes and achievements of women in the country as they are holding the highest positions in the administration such as from being secretaries to directors.
He addedthat for empowering women politically, government had taken measures like increasing seats for women in Parliament , while others were now engaged in challenging professions like pilots, members of armed forces and law enforcement agencies to mention by a few. Mr Daka observed that incidences of exploitation and domestic abuses have gone down substantially, following the development in women empowerment.
Mr. Daka however said men should not be hindrance for women to take up leadership positions adding that, mutual understanding between men and women was the only partnership that could bring development in their communities.
He advised men and women to take up a responsibility of teaching their children good morals and habits of care giving when they are young, so that they grow with it to become good leaders in society.
He also urged women to stop the culture of waiting for white collar jobs but instead get involved in skills training through various skills centres that have been put in place by government for self sustainability.
