GOVERNMENT is to soon intensify the implementation of the Fleet Management Policy to ensure public assets are used for the benefit of Zambians, Minister of Works and Supply Sylvia Chalikosa has said.
And the Ministry of Works and Supply is contemplating introducing specific brands of motor vehicles that people would associate with the government. Ms Chalikosa said in Lusaka on Monday there was a need to transform the management of government motor vehicles and ensure they are only used for service delivery.
She was speaking when a delegation from the Daily Nation Newspapers Group led by special projects editor
Charles Chisala paid a courtesy call on her at her office.
The aim of the courtesy call was to showcase various media products and how they could help disseminate information on important issues affecting the people of Zambia.
The Government Fleet Management Policy was launched in November last year under the theme ‘Works on The Move – Towards a World Class Value for Money Efficiently and Effectively Managed Government Fleet’.
“We want to change the way government assets are managed; the way government motor vehicles are used so that they benefit the people of Zambia,” Ms Chalikosa said.
And in her foreword in the policy she says to ensure good governance and effective service delivery as a way of fulfilling the aspirations in the National Vision of becoming a “prosperous middle-income country by the year 2030”, it is imperative to develop an efficient and effective public service in harmony with other stakeholders such as private sector, civil society, cooperating partners and general citizenry.
