‘Chiefs must support realigning Siavonga to Lusaka’
THE two traditional eaders n a on a must join calls to have t e d str ct rea ned to Lusaka Province for effic ent de er of services, District Commissioner (DC) o emore an ama as appealed.
Mr Kanyama told the Daily Nation in a statement yesterday that realigning the district was to ensure effective delivery of services as the Provincial Capital of Southern Province, Choma, was far away.
He said chiefs Sinadambwe and Simamba of the Tonga people should support calls to have the district realigned to Lusaka Province for administrative purposes.
The DC said it was difficult and e pensive for the district administration to be attending and communicating with Southern Province administration in Choma.
He said it was also difficult to access Government documents as a result of the distance, especially when there was no vehicle or personnel going directly to Siavonga from Choma.
He said as a result, Government documents meant for immediate action usually got stuck.
“The two Royal Highnesses, Chief Sinadambwe and Simamba of the Tonga speaking people, both of Siavonga district, are called upon to support calls to have the district aligned to Lusaka province for administration purposes.
“We are not suggesting taking Siavonga district from Southern to Lusaka Province. It is just for administration purpose. I appeal to all well-meaning Siavonga residents to fully support the idea,” Mr Kanyama said.
He said while there were complaints when Chirundu was detached from Southern to Lusaka Province, the realignment had come with massive benefits as the district had received its fair share of development.
Mr Kanyama called on the tradition leadership, politicians, the church and all Siavonga residents to support the cause as it was a positive and developmental idea.
“I am very confident that the Government, under the leadership of President Edgar Lungu, will give us what we want if only we can speak with one voice and not to politicize the issue,” he said.
