‘Youths must aspire for leadership’

- By SANDRA MACHIMA

YOUTHS should aspire for leadership positions and solve their own challenges, says Zambia Initiative Organisation executive director Namutula Sindila.

Ms Sindila said many of times youths were in boredom and waiting for Government to address their situations, when they were capable of doing it on their own.

She said the fact the Zambian population was dominated by young people, required that the youth must take up responsibility.

Ms Sindila said young people should take an introspection and assess what they had done and achieved for the nation.

“Let us not just complain, but as youths we should rise up and take up the rightful position by aspiring for leadership positions and desist from always depending on the Government to solve the problems.

“We need to be identified by what we have achieved and not just being doing nothing,” she added.

Ms Sindila said her organisation had embarked on a project named; ‘Girls unlimited survival, bootcamp’ aimed at empowering underprivileged girls between the ages of 16-20. She said identified girls would be taught survival skills such as design and tailoring, baking, deco, in a bid to equip them with entrepreneurship skills.

“Once the majority of girls are equipped with skills, then it will mean our country is headed for development. Youths should be identified according to their speciality at a tender age, that is why our target is on girls who are most vulnerable in our societies,” she said.

The medical supplies were donated through the office of the Consulate General of Zambia and would arrive in Zambia by April 4, this year.

Huajian Group board chairperson, Zhang Huarong, said the consignment included medical masks, protective gear, thermometer guns and gloves.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Mr Zhang pledged more support to Zambia in fighting COVID-19.

Mr Zhang, who is African - Chinese People’s Friendship Association vice president, said Zambia and China were all weather friends and the efforts of the two countries would ensure the war against coronavirus was won.

He said the Huajian Group through its corporate social responsibility would help the Zambian Government to focus on preventive measures to ensure COVID-19 had a minimal impact on the economy and people’s lives. He said his company was considering establishing an industrial park for manufacturing shoes in Zambia.

And receiving the donated goods on behalf of the Zambian Government, Consul General, Daniel Chisenga thanked the Huajian Group for its generosity. Mr Chisenga said the medical supplies would go a long way in helping Zambian healthcare workers in the fight against COVID-19.
