YOUTH HACKS MOM TO DEATH

A 26-YEAR-OLD man of Saviye area in Solwezi has killed his mother after a quarrel.

Apparently, the mother was trying to counsel her son against bad drinking habits, but he instead turned on her and hacked her using a machete.

North-Western Province Commissioner of Police, Hudson Namachila, confirmed the incident which happened on Sunday around 14:00 hours and identified the suspect as Alex Sandu.

Mr Namachila said Sandu got upset and hacked his 47-year-old mother, identified as Bridget Sandu.

He said she was trying to advise her son on his bad drinking habits.

"And in the process, the son got upset and hit the mother on the head using a machete," he said.He said police visited the scene and found the woman laying in a pool of blood with two deep cuts on the head.

"The body was taken to Solwezi General Hospital mortuary and the suspect has been arrested," he said.

Meanwhile, a 36-year-old man has died after being hit by a speeding motor vehicle along the Chingola-Solwezi Road.

The accident happened on Sunday around 16:00 hours near St Dorothy in

Mushindamot.

Mr Namachila said a motorist identified as, Hilda Musonda 55, knocked down a pedestrian, Timothy Lusanso, who was crossing the road.

Ms Musonda of Nchanga South in Chingola was driving a Mercedes Benz registration number AGB 5090 when the accident happened.

"Due to the impact, the pedestrian sustained head fatal injuries and died on the spot," Mr Namachila added.

He said the body was at the Solwezi General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem while a Ms Musonda has been arrested and charged for causing death by dangerous driving.
