Teacher denies stealing K141, 000 from PROTUZ

A LUSAKA teacher has pleaded not guilty to 16 counts of theft by public servant involving K141, 000 belonging to the Professional Teachers Union of Zambia (PROTUZ).

Before Lusaka Magistrate Martha Miti on Monday was Mukuwe Mukuwe, 35, a secretary at PROTUZ.

In the first and second count, particulars of the offence are that on November 22, 2019 Mukuwe, being employed as teacher in government and as PROTUZ secretary, stole K8, 000 and K11, 000, which came into his possession by virtue of his employment.

In counts three and four, particulars of the offence are that on August 2, 2019, Mukuwe stole K7, 000 and K5, 000.

In the fifth and sixth counts, particulars of offence othat on April 9, 2017 and Mukuwe stole K14, 000 and K2, 000.

Particulars of the offence in the seventh and eighth counts are that on October 12, 2017 stole K2,000 and another K2,000.

In counts nine and 10 particulars are that on December 15, 2017 and October 12, 2018 Mukuwe stole K8, 000 and K7, 000, respectively.

The allegations in counts 11 and 12 are that on April 23, 2018 and September 11, 2018 Mukuwe stole K8, 000 and another K8, 000 respectively.

In counts 13 and 14, it is alleged that on October 15, 2018 and November 19, 2018 Mukuwe stole K15, 000 and K6, 000, respectively.

In counts 15 and 16, particulars of offence are that on June 18, 2018 and March 3, 2019 Mukuwe stole K30, 000 and K10, 000, respectively. The court has set May 6 and 2020 and Mukuwe’s police bond has been extended.
